Product basics
Q1. What is reflective ribbon tape, and how is it made?
A: Our reflective ribbon tape uses high-quality polyester or nylon woven base tape as its carrier. Reflective strips are securely bonded to the surface via professional machine sewing or high-temperature heat transfer. The result combines the inherent tensile strength and flexibility of the webbing with outstanding nighttime retroreflective performance, greatly enhancing visibility in low-light environments.
Q2. What is the difference between sewn and heat-transfer types? How should I choose?
A: Each method offers distinct advantages depending on your application:
- Sewn type:
- Reflective strips are double-stitched onto the webbing using industrial sewing machines.
- Provides superior firmness, stretch resistance, wash durability, and abrasion resistance.
- Recommended for safety harnesses, pet leashes, backpack straps, industrial lashing straps, and any application subject to sustained load or repeated friction.
- Note: stitching is visible on the surface; slightly longer lead time.
- Heat-transfer type:
- Reflective film is thermally bonded under high temperature and pressure, producing a smooth, stitch-free finish.
- High production efficiency; ideal for large-volume orders with strict appearance requirements.
- Suitable for luggage straps, decorative trims, and fashion accessories.
- Note: edge lifting may occur if bonding parameters are not properly controlled; overall durability is slightly lower than the sewn type.
Q3. What are the typical applications?
A: Applications of reflective ribbon tape
- Personal safety: Reflective belts, armbands, rescue straps, outdoor backpack compression straps, cycling gear.
- Pet products: Reflective collars, leashes, and harnesses — a proven best-seller in European and North American markets.
- Industrial protection: Safety harness identification straps, equipment lashing straps, construction warning tapes. Compliant with CE/ANSI standards.
- Traffic & road safety: Cone connecting straps, barrier warning tapes, traffic management accessories.
- Luggage & apparel: Suitcase packing straps, backpack shoulder straps, reflective decorative trims for streetwear and outdoor clothing.
- Military & law enforcement: Tactical vest ID straps, duty reflective bands, and rescue equipment — offering discreet retroreflection without compromising operational profiles.
- Outdoor & sports: Mountaineering straps, tent guy lines, cycling accessories — easy to locate in low-light conditions.
- Logistics & warehousing: Pallet straps and truck lashing straps, reducing loading/unloading accidents during nighttime operations.
Q4. What is the reflectivity performance? Which standards does the tape meet?
A: The reflective strips used in our ribbon tape feature high-brightness glass-bead technology, delivering a retroreflective visibility range of 100–300 m at night. Our products can be manufactured to comply with leading international safety standards, including EN ISO 20471 and ANSI/ISEA 107. Test reports and compliance documentation are available upon request.
Q5. Are the products eco-friendly and washable?
A: All standard products are eco-friendly, odor-free, and RoHS compliant. The sewn type withstands repeated machine washing; the heat-transfer type is suitable for gentle hand or machine washing. Both variants support low-temperature tumble drying without fading or loss of reflective performance.
Customization
Q1. What specifications can be customized?
A: We offer comprehensive customization across all key parameters:
- Base material: Polyester (cost-effective, UV-resistant, dimensionally stable) or Nylon (softer hand feel, higher tensile strength, premium cost).
- Webbing width: Standard widths: 25, 30, 38, 50, 75, 100 mm. Non-standard widths available on request.
- Reflective strip width: Typically 5–90 mm narrower than the base webbing; strip-to-webbing ratio is fully adjustable.
- Reflective color: Silver-gray (standard) and a wide range of custom heat-transfer colors.
- Webbing color: Fluorescent yellow, fluorescent orange, black, red, black/red, black/white two-tone, and more.
- Stitching color: Tone-on-tone (clean, minimal look) or contrasting color (high-visibility accent).
- Roll length: Standard 100 m per roll; other lengths available on request.
- Special treatments: Pre-shrinkage, flame retardant, waterproof, anti-aging, anti-static, and other functional finishes.
Q2. Can you add logos or custom text to the tape?
A: Yes. We support custom logos, text, and graphics. The recommended process depends on order quantity, budget, and desired finish:
- Heat-transfer printing: Sharp, flat result suitable for intricate artwork; higher unit cost.
- Screen printing: Applied to the reflective strip or blank webbing areas; economical for mid-to-large quantities.
- Sewn woven/fabric label: A separate woven or fabric label is attached to the tape, leaving the reflective layer intact. Ideal for small runs or premium branding.
Q3. What stitching thread is used in the sewn type? Will it break?
A: All sewn products use high-tenacity polyester industrial thread with precisely controlled stitch density and a double-needle construction. The stitching will not break under normal tension or abrasion, and it protects the reflective strip edges from peeling. The tape will remain stable throughout everyday use unless subjected to deliberate tearing or sharp-edged cutting.
Q4. Will the reflective strip in the heat-transfer type come off?
A: When produced under correct parameters — temperature (100–160 °C), pressure, and dwell time — the bond is highly reliable. Every production batch undergoes a peel-strength test to confirm that adhesion meets industry standards. The strip will not detach under normal use or after dozens of wash cycles. For applications demanding extreme durability (heavy-duty outdoor or industrial protection products), we recommend the sewn type.
